Geologists believe Lake Missoula formed at least 41 times, and each time it left behind a deep layer of colorful argillite cobble in the narrow Rattlesnake Valley. Even though we have a short growing season at 3,450 feet elevation, we have the Far North’s advantage of long hours of sunlight. That gives us well over 2,000 degree days (over 50 degrees Farenheit), the amount necessary for the commercial production of grapes. The varietals grown at Ten Spoon Vineyard are: Maréchal Foche, Frontenac, Leon Millot, St. Croix and Swenson Red (reds) and St. Pepin and LaCrosse (whites). Our 2006 vintage year, a banner year for fruit, is producing about 4,200 cases of wine—700 cases more than 2005. All our grapes and fruit are certified organic with no added sulfites.
